Also known as Alkaline Hydrolysis, Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel is proud be a local authorized provider of a new, eco-friendly alternative to traditional cremation or burial: Aqua Cremation.
Also known as aqua cremation, flameless cremation, green cremation or resomation; Dissolution by Alkaline Hydrolysis is a gentle process that utilizes minimal amounts of water, high temperatures, and alkalinity to return remains to their most basic and natural components: minerals and water. This method leads to a dramatic reduction in carbon and mercury emissions being released into the atmosphere.
The Dissolution process mirrors what naturally occurs after a body is laid to rest in soil, saving 1/10 of the carbon emissions and 90% of the energy consumption used in traditional flame cremation. This process is less destructive than traditional flame cremation, and up to 20 percent more cremated remains are recoverable.
Dissolution by Alkaline Hydrolysis offers families a contemporary and eco-friendly solution that honors the life and legacy of their loved one. Remains from Alkaline Hydrolysis are similar to cremated remains and are returned to the family in an urn of their choice. At this point, the remains are ready for permanent memorialization, which may include placement in a columbarium niche wall or perhaps urn burial in a cemetery. The remains are also suitable for scattering.
Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel offers this service to Cottage Grove and the surrounding areas in conjunction with our partner, Clear Water Oregon’s Alternative Disposition, Roseburg, OR. Please call us for more details about this environmentally friendly alternative at 541-942-0185.
