Doug Lund was born in Dawson, Minnesota, and attended public schools in Dallas, Oregon. He is a graduate of the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science. After completing an internship in Salem, Doug worked in Salem and Portland before moving to Cottage Grove in 1965. He purchased the former Smith Mortuary and later purchased the Mills Mortuary, combining the businesses as Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel. Over the years, Doug has been active in community service. He is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Cottage Grove Community Hospital Foundation. He is Past President of the Cottage Grove Hospital Board, a lifelong member of the Cottage Grove Lions Club and active in his church. Doug and his wife, Jeryl, have two children, four grandchildren and one great grandson. He likes traveling, downhill skiing, sailing and visiting the Oregon Coast. Doug retired in 2004 after more than 40 years in funeral service. He and his wife sold the Chapel to their son Marc that same year.
Marc was born and raised in Cottage Grove, OR. As the child of the local funeral director owner/operator he grew up living next door to the funeral chapel. Marc has been in and around funeral service his whole life.
After graduating high school in 1988, marc served in the U.S. Army Reserve, attaining the rank of Sergeant by the end of his commitment. In 1993, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon.
In 1995, Marc received his Associate Degree in Mortuary Science from Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon. Marc returned to Cottage Grove to work in the family business with his father in 1995. Purchasing Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel & Crematorium and Fir Grove Cemetery.
Marc is currently serving as Board Chairman for the National Funeral Trust Service. He is Past President of the Oregon Funeral Directors Association, Past Board Chairman of South Lane County Fire & Rescue, and has served on the Policy Board of the National Funeral Directors Association.
He lives in Cottage Grove with his wife, Christina, and their two boys. Marc enjoys many hobbies and interest; including snow skiing, snowboarding, golf and sailing.
Marc is a caring and thoughtful person, who serves every family with compassion and professionalism.
Christina is the Co-Owner, with her husband Marc Lund, of Smith Lund Mills Funeral Chapel and Fir Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove. Christina graduated from Linfield College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Business Administration. Christina joined Smith Lund Mills Funeral Chapel in 2001. She is active in the administrative and marketing details of the firm.
Christina has served on many local and regional boards such as South Lane Wheels, Linfield College Alumni Board and Junior League of Eugene. Serving as the board chair of CASA of Lane County, she rounded out more than 14 years advocating for children. Christina is active in a variety of civic groups including Cottage Grove Rotary, the Bohemia Park Project and the Cottage Grove Vision 2037. In recent years, Christina has spent much of her time on local community projects to enhance the livability of Cottage Grove.
She and Marc are the proud parents of two boys. With her family, Christina is an avid skier, golfer and amateur chef.
Tami Stewart is a third generation Cottage Grove resident. She graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1989, later attending a vocational school specializing in the travel industry. In 2010 Tami joined Smith-Lund-Mills and is working as a Funeral Director/Embalmer Apprentice. She is currently a student Arapahoe Community College completing her degree in mortuary science. Previously Tami was a self-employed, wedding coordinator and professional photographer for 10 years. She has 30 years of customer service experience and is an active community member. She is a Past President of the South Lane Family Relief Nursery Board of Directors, Community Sharing volunteer, and has participated in Relay for Life and volunteers within South Lane School District working with children. Tami and her husband Faye have four beautiful children. Her hobbies include walking, traveling, photography, cooking and spending time with her family.
Adam is a native Oregonian. He was born in Portland and grew up in the neighboring city of Sandy. Adam graduated from Sandy High School. He spent several years working in the audio repair industry before enrolling in the Funeral Service Education program at Mt. Hood Community College. Adam graduated with his Associate Degree in Funeral and Mortuary Science in 2012. In the summer of 2012, Adam began working for Smith-Lund-Mills as a Funeral Director/Embalmer. In his free time, Adam enjoys leather craft, reading, hiking, and watching movies.
Troy was born in Cottage Grove and raised in Yoncalla, Oregon. He graduated from Yoncalla High School. After graduating high school Troy worked for North Douglas Wood Products for a short time before becoming a Personal Trainer/Chiropractors Assistant. Troy began working at Smith Lund Mills/Fir Grove Cemetery in 2006. Working hard to learn both funeral and cemetery skills, Troy is an integral part of both the funeral chapel and cemetery service teams. Troy is the lead cemeterian at Fir Grove. Troy enjoys fishing and being outdoors. As a former Fitness Trainer he also enjoys physical pursuits and inspires the staff to be healthy. He, and his wife Stephanie, live in Cottage Grove with their son.
Linda Green, a native Oregonian, was born in Vernonia and grew up and attended school in The Dalles. She attended Northwest College in Kirkland, Washington, near Seattle. She began working as a receptionist for Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in early 2000.Before that, she had served as a secretary for various churches, and also for a small private school for over 20 years. Before moving to western Oregon, she was a secretary in the office of the District Attorney of Wasco County. Linda and her husband have lived in Cottage Grove since 1982. They have three children and six grandchildren. In her spare time, Linda enjoys hiking, working outside, music and traveling. Her very favorite thing is spending time with her grandkids.
Bonita Butler email@example.com Bonita Butler was born and raised in San Francisco, CA. She moved to Cottage Grove in 2006. Prior to being hired as a receptionist for Smith-Lund-Mills, Bonita worked in the non-profit sector for over 32 years. Most of this time was at the Youth Law Center since its inception in 1978. Spending time exploring Oregon is something Bonita enjoys. She especially loves taking trips to the coast. Some of her pastimes are walking, reading, cooking and gardening.
Pat Dolan is a long time resident of Cottage Grove. For 30 years he taught science, social studies and history at the former Lincoln Junior High School and at Cottage Grove High School. While at Lincoln, he was chosen as a teacher of the year and he also received a spirit award. Patrick coached basketball for 28 years, track for 23 years, and football for four years. Prior to moving to Cottage Grove, Patrick taught for five years in Montana high schools and was a teaching assistant for a year at Montana State University. In 1967, he earned his Master of Science degree in the History of Science with a Zoology minor. In 1961, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in general studies from Montana State College with a major in Social Studies and a minor in Science.
Patrick Dolan is the Sexton for Fir Grove Cemetery and assists as needed at Smith-Lund-Mills. Patrick has four sons, one daughter and nine grandchildren. In his spare time, he likes to read, hunt, ski, and play golf.
Gary Mowrey lives near Dorena Lake in Cottage Grove, where he enjoys doing yard work and pursuing genealogy. He came to Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in 1998 from southern California. His experience includes working in funeral service management for more than 15 years in the greater Los Angeles area. Recently semi-retired, Gary is always eager to help as needed. The community will often see him officiating at services and volunteering his time.
David is a 5th generation Oregonian whose family moved here via the Oregon Trail in 1846 and 1853. Graduate of Cottage Grove Union High School, Lane Community College and the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Personnel and Industrial Management. Retired from Lane County after 23 years serving as Director of Elections and Sign Shop Supervisor. Retired Lieutenant Commander with 30 years’ service, active and reserve, in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He is a life member of the local Masonic Lodge. David is married. He and his wife Joy have two children and five grandchildren.
Randy Wood serves as our Pre-Planning Councilor and has been guiding families through the difficult times of loss for more than 45 years. He is a Certified Cemetery Executive (CCE), a designation given to him by the International Cemetery Cremation Association of North America (ICCFA). Randy is also an ordained minister and retired from pastoral responsibilities in 2008.
He has been married to his wife, Charceline, over 50 years. He loves living in Lane County. They have 2 adult children, 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren living in Southern California.
Randy relaxes by playing golf, attending track and field events, fishing, hunting, spending time with friends, and enjoying the wonders of Oregon.
Randy considers it an honor to represent Smith-Lund Mills by helping those who want to pre-arrange their final wishes.
Hank Green was born in Hoquiam, Washington. From an early age Hank was called to serve others. He earned a pastoral degree from Northwest College in Kirkland, WA. Soon after he began serving as youth pastor in The Dalles and Hood River, Oregon. Hank enjoyed his time working with youth but was called to expand his ministry in the small town of Willamina, Oregon. There he pastored for more than eight years. Hank, with his wife Linda, moved to Cottage Grove in 1982 to become the lead pastor of South Lane Christian Center and South Lane Christian School. After 27 years of service, Hank retired in 2009. After a short hiatus, Hank began working part-time Smith-Lund-Mills. He currently serves on the staff of a local church as the Pastoral Care Minister. He and his wife have three children and six grandchildren.
Tyler Lefler is a Funeral Director Assistant helping to provide quality care. Tyler is currently a student at American Academy of Funeral Services working towards the completion of his degree in Mortuary Science. He has chosen a career in the funeral industry because he is passionate about helping others.
A life-long Cottage Grove resident, Tyler graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 2010 with a Certificate of Advance Mastery in Computer Science. He has previously worked in the automotive industry for 5 years in sales, service and accounting.
Tyler is an active member of Cottage Grove Rotary, where he enjoys coordinating local charity events for children. He and his wife, Ashley, enjoy spending time together with their two kids. His hobbies include camping, working outdoors, and knee boarding. Tyler and Ashley love to travel, especially to the Oregon coast.
Jalen Walton works on our cemetery service team, helping to maintain Fir Grove Cemetery and providing interment services for numerous cemeteries throughout the area.
He was born in Roseburg, Oregon. He is a native of Yoncalla, graduating from Yoncalla High School in 2013. Currently serving in the Oregon Army National Guard, Jalen is proud to serve his country. He excels at being a small arms and artillery repairman.
He has volunteered for the Yoncalla Booster Club and the Roseburg Veteran’s Administration. He is proud to assist the Yoncalla High School in coordinating and organizing fundraising events to support school athletics, mentoring young men, implementing and enforcing school policies, and maintaining the community’s appearance. Jalen is an avid Oregon Ducks fan who loves weight lifting, exercising, and fitness. He also enjoys playing football, basketball, and baseball. His future plans are to attend Western Oregon University to obtain a Business Degree in Sports Management. Jalen hopes to play baseball at the college level.
